High Hopes Don’t Help

I’ve realized the main problem with most American conceptions of the Middle-East conflict is a form of utopian-liberalism that misses the point of the existence of Israel. Most people I talk to say that the Jews should just bring the Palestinians fully into the culture and live as friends…No shit! Of course that is the way it should be. The reason for the existence of the Jewish state is because the rest of society doesn’t live up to its end of the bargain.

Look at the history of the Jewish people and you’ll see histories of massacres prejudices at the hands of the rest of society. As the U.S. shows, there are societies that can adopt people from other ethnic and religious groups and get along fine, but Europe and Middle-East prove otherwise. People always say that the holocaust could never happen again. That is preposterous. Look at the recent elections in France. I won’t say that Le Pen was going to kill off all the Jews in the country, but this recent spurt of anti-Semitism in Europe shows the danger that the people face today. I hope people get their heads out of the clouds and see that history tends to repeat itself.

The Return Home

After pulling the "Big Drive," I finally made it back to sweet home Salt Lake. The drive back was beautiful but long. Somehow, my dad and I need to take a boat trip down the Missouri in our little speed boat this summer. That part of the country is wonderful and I feel it is my obligation to spoil it before yuppies move in and destroy the scenery. May not be posting as much for a while because I am waiting for a better internet connection.
